The Eidenhart Dynasty and the Tallums of Karna
The Eidenharts and the Tallums are the two great families behind Tibet Innovations, the corporation that owns Karna in Dixotomia. The Eidenharts are a corporate aristocracy with inheritance law, a sprawling family tree and internal assassination as a normal tool, and Viviana Eidenhart holds Karna as chair of the board. The Tallums are Tibet's co-founders and the Eidenharts' hereditary enemies.
This guide covers the families as background. It does not reveal what happens to anyone in the story.
Who are the Eidenharts, and what do they own?
The Eidenhart dynasty is the lore's picture of corporate aristocracy: a family that rules through a company the way a noble house rules through land. Three features define it:
- Inheritance law. Karna passes down the family tree as an inheritance, like an estate.
- A sprawling family tree. There are many branches and many relatives with a claim.
- Internal assassination as a normal instrument. Removing a relative is an accepted tool of family politics, not a scandal.
Viviana Eidenhart holds Karna today. Other Eidenharts want it.
What does corporate aristocracy mean here?
The lore describes Karna as a quasi-fief of Tibet Innovations, and it uses the word without irony. A fief is land held under a lord, and Karna is a planet held under a corporation. The company owns the mine, the refinery and the research lab, and it fields a private army it calls a security service. Its troopers wear black and orange, and Reynor's professional verdict is that they sometimes act like cadets on a first exercise rather than soldiers.
In other words, a planet is treated as an item in a will. That sounds absurd until you read how the rest of the Federation is organised. The post on the Federation and Attecor shows a state where a machine assigns each citizen a profession. The Eidenharts sit at the opposite end of that arrangement: an ordinary citizen is assigned a profession, while inheritance law hands an Eidenhart a world.
How did Viviana Eidenhart end up with Karna?
Her route to the planet is a short chain of events:
- Karna sits on the family tree as an inheritance item.
- Relatives refuse it, because nobody wants a loss-making colony on the edge.
- At 24, Viviana inherits it.
- She reads the dinerite reports her predecessor never opened.
- Within ten years, processing of the ore grows thousands of times over.
- The colony nobody wanted becomes the one other Eidenharts want.
She has never once left the Beta Virgo system. She built a kilometre-high tower so her rooms sit above the mud storms, and she is in her sixties but looks thirty. The lore calls her the Oxygen Queen of the Federation, and the full dossier is in the profile of Viviana Eidenhart, the Oxygen Queen of Karna. That dossier includes a piece of body horror: blackthorn and holly surface through her skin in waves.
Why is assassination routine in the family?
In most stories murder inside a family is the plot. In the Eidenhart lore it is a tool. The setting treats internal assassination as an ordinary instrument of family politics, the way another company might treat a hostile takeover.
That is a rule of the world, not a spoiler. It helps explain why other Eidenharts want Karna, and why a colony nobody wanted now looks like a prize. In a family like that, holding the planet is not the same as being safe.
Who are the Tallums?
The Tallums are Tibet's co-founders and the Eidenharts' hereditary enemies. A company co-founded by the hereditary enemies of the family that holds its planet has a feud built into it.
The lore summarised here treats the Tallums as a house rather than as individuals, so they appear more as a presence behind the company than as a single face. For the corporation they co-founded, read Tibet Innovations: the corporation that owns Karna.
How do the two houses compare?
| Eidenharts | Tallums | |
|---|---|---|
| Link to Tibet Innovations | Hold Karna, with Viviana as chair of the board | Co-founders of the company |
| Relationship | Hereditary enemies of the Tallums | Hereditary enemies of the Eidenharts |
| How the lore describes them | Corporate aristocracy: inheritance law, a family tree, assassination as a tool | A rival house tied to the company's founding |
| Key figure | Viviana Eidenhart | Known as a family rather than by one person |
What are the key facts to remember?
If you only keep a few lines from this guide, keep these:
- The Eidenharts. A corporate aristocracy with inheritance law, a sprawling family tree and assassination as a normal instrument.
- The Tallums. Co-founders of Tibet Innovations and hereditary enemies of the Eidenharts.
- Viviana Eidenhart. Chair of the board, who inherited Karna at 24 and has never left the Beta Virgo system.
- Karna. A quasi-fief, passed down a family tree like an inheritance.
- The prize. A colony nobody wanted, whose processing of ore grew thousands of times in ten years.
What does the dynasty tell you about Karna?
It tells you who the planet belongs to and why that matters. Karna is not run by a government. It is run by a family inside a corporation that its hereditary enemies helped found, and everyone who lives and works there lives with the consequences.
The line that defines Viviana makes the point neatly. In the lore she is not cruel toward people. The question is who she considers people. In a place where labourers travel as cargo, that question has teeth. The lore frames her own ambitions as beauty, youth and material supremacy rather than power, which fits a woman in her sixties with a thirty-year-old's face and a tower above the weather.
Dixotomia is a single-player VR sci-fi horror shooter, and its horror has a corporate structure behind it. If you want to see Karna for yourself, the game is on Steam, and the free demo guide explains how to try it first. If the game is new to you, start with what Dixotomia is.
