Dixotomia Story Explained: Full Plot Summary (Spoilers)
Spoiler warning: this post covers the story of Dixotomia in detail, including a character's death and the reveals that follow.
The story of Dixotomia follows Reynor "Ron" Adams from a blind arrival on Karna to the discovery that nearly everyone giving him orders is lying. It runs through an attack on Tibet HQ, a bite in a dead elevator, the death of his friend Johnny Flaherty, a fight with Alister Duncan and a string of lies from Otto Stern and Edward Price. The official lore documents the story only up to the footage at the Refinery, so this summary stops there.
How far does the documented story go?
The summary draws on two sources in the lore. The novelization pages cover the first eight beats and stop mid-scene as Reynor leaves Stern's office. The design notes cover the later beats: Price's orders, the Tower and the Refinery. Anything beyond the Refinery footage is not documented, so it is left out and not guessed at.

What happens when Reynor arrives on Karna?
Reynor wakes alone, 65 days into a 138-day braking cycle. A nurse takes him to Johnny, just out of cryo, and the two friends open sealed orders: replace Inspector Aurora Devaldo, whose file is almost empty. When they leave hyperspace, Johnny learns that the relay has been dead for three years. They are going in completely blind.
They skip the week-long landing queue on a shuttle packed with contraband labourers, and Johnny notes that reporting it will change nothing. Outside, a hot oily rain falls. At Tibet HQ, a lieutenant named Vergis tells them everyone has known they were coming for three months. Reynor is kitted out in black and orange, registered as a private pending Price's confirmation, and when he knocks on Johnny's door he gets no answer. "Strange."
What happens during the attack?
During a drill, the lights die and a combat alert sounds. The lift stops a level short, and Reynor strips his left glove to reach the manual release. Something drops on him from above and sinks two rows of fangs into his left forearm. A quarter-second later the creature's brains are on the lift walls.
Then he notices the alarm has stopped and the silence under it is continuous gunfire. Price cuts in with an order: take the Spark from D6, at any cost. Reynor finds ten men in Tibet uniform, and three open fire on him. His suit AI cannot read their telemetry, which is the story's first sign that the enemy is inside the house.
What is the Spark, and why does it matter?
The Spark is an experimental weapon stored in a force safe in a wrecked lab on level D6, where four Tibet troopers are trying to break it open. It mounts on the right bracer, runs on the suit's own energy and is fired by thought. One flash leaves a melting hole the size of a human head.
The catch defines the next fight: while it recharges, the protective field weakens. Reynor's verdict is that now there is something to fight with.
How does Johnny die?
Reynor follows a blood trail into a side corridor and finds Johnny propped against a wall, coughing blood, his suit medkit already maxed. Johnny gives him a weary last word and drops his inspector's token on his own stomach, with an instruction: find Devaldo, because she must know something and something is going on here. Reynor hides the token in his pistol grip. The full account is in Johnny Flaherty in Dixotomia: his fate explained.
What happens in the Duncan fight?
Under a glass ceiling, a draped shape descends in silence. Reynor freezes, and it is not his doing: Duncan's voice arrives inside his skull. The suit medkit shocks his muscles, a pulse reaches the right forearm and the Spark discharges into the floor, which breaks Duncan's concentration.
Duncan has three force-suspension spheres. Reynor takes them one at a time, buying recharge windows with flash-bangs. When the third sphere goes, Duncan closes metal fingers on his throat and says it is a pity to kill him. Then Reynor's left arm comes alive with a life of its own, burning but his own, and hurls Duncan across the hall. Whether Duncan dies is not stated. See Duncan boss fight explained.
What happens in the regen tank?
Reynor surfaces in a regen flask. The bite has closed and looks terrible, which should not be possible. His left bracer is gone, the sleeve has been slit, and Johnny's token is still in the pistol grip. He finds an infocard labelled "R. Adams. Treatment" and copies it to his suit with Johnny's token. It holds Esmeralda's log of the Mine 17 incident and an intercepted letter from the miner Said Hassan to his wife.
Esmeralda returns and asks why he still wears his helmet. She touches her ring to the infocard, reads it, shows no emotion at all, tears off the paper label and bins it.
What does Stern tell him?
In his office, Stern says the creature cannot be identified and calls the massacre a mass insanity that lasted a while and then stopped. He admits a neurotoxin in the wound will not yield to direct removal, and that omicron blockers only restrain it. Then he sells the side effects as a small compensation: they will slightly enhance Reynor's abilities until he is cured.
Reynor asks a last question: who is Duncan? Stern takes off his glasses, wipes them on his sleeve and says he has no idea. The novelization stops there.
What do the design notes add?
According to the design notes, Stern engineered the attack to advance his research. Price was in on it, but only to neutralise Johnny, and neither planned for a third party to abduct him. Price blames Viviana and sends Reynor to the Tower. Dying, Viviana says Price is not who he seems. At the Refinery, the AI Sapphire flags that Price never filed clearance, and Reynor finds footage proving Johnny is alive.
| Character | Motive according to the design notes |
|---|---|
| Price | The planet's resources, and an army to exterminate the infected |
| Stern | To perfect the mutation and run his experiments openly |
| Viviana | Beauty, youth and material supremacy, not power |
| Duncan | Revenge, and augmentation without limit |
The post on who is lying to Reynor separates the novelization from the design notes in more detail.
What is still undocumented?
Several threads are open in the lore:
- Whether Duncan dies in the hall fight.
- Where Esmeralda's loyalties lie.
- Whether Price's order to deliver the Spark to F4 on a private channel, when the open channel said F5, was a trap or a slip.
- What a Mine 17 investigation would find, since there is none on the page.
There is also no confrontation with Price and no resolution.
